I've been meaning to post what Lose said at last week's family home evening. That girl can really be exasperating sometimes, but she also has the ability to be so wise. We were discussing the story of Jonah and the Whale. We looked at a picture depicting Jonah aftere he had been spit out on the shore and the whale was swimming off in the distance. We spoke as a family about how sometimes it seems easiest to run away from those things that seem hardest for us to do and that seem unconquerable. It was easy to draw the parallel between Jonah's experience and ours. Emotionally these girls are working hard to face what even some adults don't have to consider dealing with for years and years. It would be easy for them to hide their feelings and run from confronting all that Naki's death brings to their little lives. But they are courageous and strong women. The process isn't pretty or graceful, but instead gritty, honest, and raw. After the lesson I asked all the girls to tell me anything they'd learned from Jonah's story that they could apply to their own lives. They each had interesting things to share. But Lose's was so wise and poignant, I had to pass it along. She said,
"I learned, Mom, that magic isn't real. But miracles are."
"I learned, Mom, that magic isn't real. But miracles are."
Line and Malia loved it so much that a week later I found them writting 'themes', as they called them, for their new year, on a huge poster in their room. The very first theme was Lose's. Thanks, LoLo.

Oh, that's beautiful. Great lesson.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wise little munchkin. Love you Lo!
ReplyDeleteCan I add that to one of my "themes" for the new year? That brain of Lose's always amazes me-I love her! I totally believe in miracles too!
ReplyDeleteThe Lord is so aware of your little family!!! Miracles are real!!!!!Keep up the awesome work with your girls!!!
ReplyDeleteI know you don't know who I am, but I found your blog a couple of months ago from a donation button on another friend's blog for your and your girls. I have been so touched by your strength and your faith as well as your openness. Your girls are spiritual giants who are getting through things I can't even imagine, and they are doing it with smiles.
ReplyDeleteI know it isn't much, but I want you to know that you and your girls are in my thoughts and prayers constantly. People love you and are cheering for you from everywhere! I wish I could reach out and hug you and each of your girls, but since I can't, I'll keep praying for you!
Lose, you are wise for sure. Abby, thanks for the testimony about FHE. I will make that one of my 2010 goals, i know how important that is for us and our little ones.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to your fam bam
xoxo Nis
She's got it down now doesn't she. What a sweet girl. She must have a pretty darn amazing mom that she takes after. I think you are wonderful and I love you!
ReplyDeletePretty cool for a young one.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is the collective faith of mom and daughters that "precedes each of these miracles." Wonderful...eternally wonderful. Love, mom/gma
